Daisy season is coming

There’s something about a paddock full of daisies that makes you want to slow down for a little while.

The kids running through the flowers.

Bare feet in the grass.

Daisy chains being made.

Parents trying to keep up.

Little hands picking flowers.

Giggles that carry across the paddock.

And that is exactly why I love daisy season.

It’s not just about beautiful photographs. It’s about giving families a reason to get outside, have some fun together and capture this particular stage of life before the year gets completely crazy.

The daisies usually begin to bloom from early November, which means our little window of opportunity is almost here.

And when I say little window, I really mean it.

Daisy season doesn't last forever, and because these fields are working paddocks, we never quite know exactly when they will be mowed. That means I like to make the most of them while they're looking their absolute best and photograph the majority of my daisy sessions before mid November.

Once they're gone, they're gone until next year.

So if you've been thinking about getting some updated family photographs, this is the perfect time.

But what actually happens during a session?

This isn't about lining everyone up in a row and asking them to smile at the camera.

In fact, I'd much rather see you forget I'm there.

We'll have space to move around, explore and play. The kids can run, you can cuddle, you can tickle them, make daisy chains, throw them in the air, sit amongst the flowers or simply enjoy being together.

I'll guide you when needed, but I'll also give you plenty of space to just be a family.

Because those are often the photographs that end up meaning the most.

The little moments between the "proper" photographs.

The way your child reaches for your hand.

The way they bury their face into you when they need a cuddle.

The sibling who can't stop laughing.

The wild, crazy moments.

The quiet ones too.

Those are the moments I want to remember for you.

What to wear

One of the questions I get asked most often before a family session is "What should we wear"

And my biggest piece of advice is don't overthink it!

Daisy sessions are relaxed, playful and outdoorsy, so I love clothing that feels the same.

Think soft, natural and summery.

Creams, whites, beige, tan, soft browns, muted greens, denim and other earthy tones work beautifully against the green grass and white daisies.

You can also bring in subtle patterns, florals or little pops of colour (but do avoid neon) to add some personality. You don't all need to match — in fact, I it’s all about coordinating rather than matching outfits.

A few things I love:

Soft linen and cotton fabrics

Dresses and skirts that move when you walk, a bit of flowing fabric is sooo good

Neutral or earthy tones

Denim paired with simple tops

Textures such as knit, linen or gauze

Bare feet

Simple floral prints

Little pops of colour that reflect your family's personality

And for the kids?

let them be kids

Choose something they can comfortably run, sit, roll around and play in. If they're going to spend the session barefoot, even better.

You don't need to worry about keeping their clothes perfectly clean either. We're heading into a paddock, after all!

I also love a little movement in clothing, a dress that catches the breeze, a loose shirt, a little pair of overalls or a skirt that swishes as your daughter runs through the flowers.

Those little details photograph beautifully.

a few things I'd avoid

There's no strict dress code, but I generally recommend avoiding everyone wearing the exact same colour or outfit.

Bright neon colours can also compete with the soft colours of the paddock, and large logos or very bold graphics can pull attention away from your faces and connection.

Most importantly, wear something that feels like you.

You don't want to spend your session worrying about your clothes. You want to be able to run, cuddle, sit in the grass and enjoy your family.

If you're still unsure, send me a photo of your outfit options. I'm always happy to help you pull everything together.

come have a bit of fun before the silly season arrives

November and December have a funny way of sneaking up on us.

Suddenly the calendar is full.

School events.

Sports days.

Christmas parties.

End of year celebrations.

Work commitments.

Shopping.

And approximately one million other things.

So getting your family photographs done in early November means you can tick one more thing off that ever growing list before the Christmas chaos really kicks in.

And there's another bonus...

You'll have photos back in time for Christmas.

Which means you can order prints for the grandparents, create beautiful gifts for family members, update the frames around your home or simply have photographs ready to give to the people you love.

Because photographs aren't just for your phone.

They're meant to be printed, held, displayed and enjoyed.

Why i love photographing you all in the daisies

There is something about the setting that makes everything feel a little more relaxed.

The flowers give the kids something to explore and interact with, rather than asking them to simply stand and pose.

And because there's so much space, there is room for movement.

Room for personality.

Room for the little moments to unfold naturally.

You don't need perfectly behaved children.

You don't need everyone looking at the camera.

You don't even need to know what to do in front of a camera.

That's my job.

Your job is simply to show up and enjoy your people.

the window is short

The daisies usually begin appearing in early November, and I aim to photograph most of my daisy sessions before the middle of the month.

Because we don't control when the paddock is mowed, I can't promise exactly how long they'll stick around.

That's part of what makes these sessions special, though.

They're a little seasonal pocket of time that comes around once a year.

And before we know it, the paddock will be green again and we'll be waiting for next year's flowers.

So if you've been meaning to update your family photographs, this might just be your sign.

Come barefoot.

Bring the kids.

Bring the chaos.

Make some daisy chains.

Have a run through the flowers.

And let me capture your family exactly as you are right now.

Because this version of your family only exists once.

Daisy sessions are available in early November with limited availability. If you’d like to book a session click below to organise a session
